August 14, 2017
Dear Northeast Families;
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year at Northeast Primary School. I hope you all are having a healthy and relaxing summer. Many of us have been working with our students this summer and/or have been learning through classes, conferences, and travel. The energy and motivation towards ongoing learning is truly impressive. Speaking of impressive energy, we have a new teacher this year. Please help me to welcome Alexa Jakiela. Ms. Jakiela is replacing our newly retired Mr. Bender as our art teacher. She has been a long term sub at RHS and NW and we know she is going to be a fantastic addition to our staff. And now, regarding the start of the school year….
For Kindergarten students
- We start the school year off using a gradual small group schedule over the first three days of school. You should have a separate letter assigning your child one of the three orientation days (students will come only one day August 30, August 31 or September 1 as assigned). This orientation for kids and at least one parent/guardian will last about 90 minutes.
- After this orientation day, we have a Labor Day holiday Monday September 4, and then the next school day will be Tuesday September 5th. During the rest of that week (September 5-8) dismissal will be at 12:00. The regular 9-3:15 school day for kindergarteners will begin September 11th.
For Grades 1 and 2 students
- School begins on Wednesday August 30th . Once again we will hold a “First Day of School” celebration from 9-9:45. On this first day of school, we invite parents/guardians of 1st and 2nd Grades to join your children in the classrooms from 9:00-9:30. Prior to leaving parents can meet with me and representatives from our staff and PTC for about 15 minutes in the cafeteria.
- Open House for Grades 1 and 2 only will be held Monday September 11th in students’ classrooms from 6:00-6:30. Following this, parents can come to our first Parent Teacher Collaborative meeting which will be held in the Art and Music room at 6:40.
You are an important part of our learning community and we welcome any involvement possible. When family is involved, children perform better in school. Ways that you can be involved are by attending school activities and special events, attending individual student meetings or conferences, communicating with classroom teachers, and ensuring regular attendance.
Additional information about this school year will be coming home with students in the first few days of school. We encourage you to read the Family Handbook that is posted on our website and will be sent home in folders. This handbook contains much important information concerning our school programs, policies, procedures and expectations. Until then, I look forward to seeing you and send best wishes for a successful school year.
